Movin' On Out
I moved into my dorm room in N. Smith today. I had hoped to get there first so I can stake my claim on the best bed etc. However, because my roomate, Jake G., signed the lease agreement earlier than I did he was allowed to move in a day earlier. I'm living in the nicest dormoitory on campus, so even though I got the bed next to the door with all the cable, power and ethernet cords duct tape over the head of my bed I suppose I can't complain.
As for my roommate, he seems nice enough. Well, not really; but I can tell he makes an effort to be. He actually reminds me alot of myself. His mannerisms, even the way he looks. He like a Jewish version of myself. Judging from what some of my friends have said I know I could have done a lot worse.
Moving in was hectic. Mom and I packed up the SUV and left home at about 7:30 so we could arrive on campus at 8am the earliest I was allowed to set up. We met Jake and his mother, who reminded somewhat of my mother, except for that she was blond and had a heavy southern accent. Maybe all moms are alike. Later on when Mom went to pick up some snacks for me at Wal-Mart/Target I met JJSDS's father. Who, suprises, reminded me vuagely of Dad.
We brought up most of the heavy stuff today: computer, refridgerator, TV, microwave, and most of the essentials; but I still need to bring some stuff from home, which shouldn't be too difficult since home is less than half an hour away. On the elevator I met a student from Asia, I told him I was from Topeka and he asked me the time it took to fly here. I thought this was very amusing, though I'm not too suprised. Unlike here in the U.S. I doubt other countries force their students to learn all the American state captials in elementray school. I wonder what it would be alike to attend a University so far from home. I once considered studying abroad but only for a few momments. There's no place like home, or someplace nearby. I might still in the future.
The four of us spent a few hours unpacking and getting everything in their general locations then we had to head home because I needed to work that evening at the mall. I will need to commute for another few days before my work week ends,
